INEC HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS' MEETING IN PORT HARCOURT

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers state held her stakeholders meeting with leaders of political parties and candidates of the various political parties as regards the re-run election at the INEC's head office, Port Harcourt, on August 18th 2016.

"Rivers state is losing out of the schemes of things at the NASS, therefore, let's shield our swords and let's move forward!" This was the cry of one of the people who attended the INEC's meeting in Port Harcourt. As a result, it became the cry of the entire stakeholders and people present at the meeting. It was a divided house though,
because some stakeholders believe the problem of River state election is the REC (Resident Electoral Commission) while others believe the REC is a very transparent man. After all said, the REC stood up to say he is not going to join issues with anyone but to say it the way it happened. That in turn influenced another uproar when stakeholders demanded for copies of what the REC is going to say verbally. Documents should be given to all involved so that they go back and study them and then re-convey, this was their take even though the date for the Re-run election is still tentative but some time in October.

Mrs. Hadiza Zakari

In terms of managing the INEC, Mrs Hadiza Zakari, National Commissioner in charge of election operations tried to give her own version, again the stakeholders pointed out her flaws too.
